San Francisco Food & Travel Guide

Uji Time

It was my first time visiting San Francisco. I went for a lil mini vacation, but definitely stuffed in A LOT of attractions but mostly a lot of FOOD! Follow along as I show you where to eat, what to do and where to stay in SF! We swapped into two hotels, one being Argonaut Hotel that was right on Fisherman's Dwarf and the other one being more into the city and "downtown" ish vibes and area. We ate ice cream, thai food, prime rib, seafood.. dessert. you literally name it! Read along for more.

Rooster And Rice

The first thing we did when we landed - picked up some hainanese chicken from Rooster and Rice. Although a simple dish, this place did one of my favorite renditions of it. There are two locations so you can definitely stop by on your next trip!

Blue Mermaid SF

Located inside the Argonaut Hotel, Blue Mermaid is a seafood driven and focused concept right on Fisherman's Wharf. We went for a leisurely lunch right downstairs from our room. :) We got ahi tuna tacos (because I can never NOT order those on the menu!) Oysters, a seafood feast of cioppino with shrimp, mussels, crab + the works.

4505 Meats

BBQ PLEASE! As if we weren't eating enough, we added on a BBQ place + OMG. I feel in love with this burger. It had a sesame and scallion bun and gruyere cheese on a grassfed patty. Go here + get that!

The Argonaut Hotel

Step inside the The Argonaut Hotel! Oh my gosh, this hotel suite was something that I've just dreamed about. Take a look at this TUB! After walking, eating and being on the town all day, there was nothing I wanted to do more than to jump in the jacuzzi/tub and soak up. Not to mention, they had bath salts right on the side of the bathtub to place in. I am now so inspired to make sure I have this in my future house! hah!

I loved everything about this hotel, it was SO close to the water and was right on Fisherman's Wharf.

China Live SF

The Vibe at China Live SF was unlike anything I've seen in LA. It was an underground Chinese restaurant with all different booths of chefs making dim sum, to slicing the pecking duck. You can also shop a lot of the products you eat during dinner at their store next door, AH MAZING. Food, cocktails, vibe, 100. come to LA asap!

The Mill SF

It was almost time for us to say goodbye to SF, and we were honestly slowing down from how much food we had been eating. :o lol! So we decided to chill out at The Mill SF. We got coffee, iced hot chocolate and 2 toasts, both amazing. You can see them making their bread fresh when you're walking in the back. Not to mention cute AF vibes in here!

My love for anything ceramic, styling, cute and small runs wild. I am obsessed with researching and sifting through all the best props, bowls, little forks, backdrops that I can find on a daily basis. Here we have all my favorite props and ceramics that I love and use for food photography recipes and styling.

Current Faves!

As of now, I only have these mini bowls from Hanselmann Pottery but I'm looking to get some more from them ASAP! I loved this shoot I did with them of these Udon Noodle Bowls - isn't it just dreamy? They are really great for mixing bowls, side mixing and prepping for when I'm food styling. They also work perf as side props in the shot.

Julia E. Dean

I'm in love with this huge plate above! But also this shop has the most adorable mugs. I use the mug and the plate for a lot of product photography and styling. Highly reccomend! All the items are extremely durable and beautiful.

Daiso Japan

If you want some cheap + cute props and ceramics, go to Daiso Japan. there is a bunch of locations and mostly everything is under $2. They have adorable sushi bento boxes, chopsticks and bowls that are perfect for styling. My favorites are the smaller bowls with textures like florals or plaid.

Photography Backdrops

Misen Knives

IMG_8106.JPG

Everyone that cookes NEEDS some good knives and up until now, I haven't had any good ones. I had one Victorinox one that is awesome, but besides that, I don't have any knife blocks or anything like that so I was in NEED for some really sharp and sturdy knives. I've been trying out the Misen Knives I LOVE them. I definitely recommend. I got the gray. :)

Williams Sonoma

IMG_5780.JPG

Banyan Tree Bangkok

If you've been following me on Instagram lately, you've noticed I took an awesome trip to Thailand. It was such an amazing time - flew into Bangkok, went to Phuket, Chiang Mai and ended our trip back in Bangkok. When arriving back in Bangkok, I went straight to Banyan Tree Bangkok. Banyan Tree Bangkok is known for it's popular rooftop destination, where you can overlook the whole city. It's pretty spectacular. But alongside that, is also an amazing property, with gorgeous rooms and and overall great hotel experience. Follow along below for more pictures and what we ate!

Be sure to take a look at my travel hashtag #llindseytravels to see more and stay tuned for a full Thailand Travel & Food Guide. Now let's get into it. :)

First thing's first: Breakfast!

My room had a gorgeous view so how can I not order some breakfast? It was nice to get to relax at Banyan Tree and stay at the resort and take in the view. Throughout our trip, we were always on the go (in a good way! ;)) so it was nice to come to the property and take a break. One way to relax here is to take a bath, which is just dreamy isn't it! The bathtub had bath salts on the side of it and the room comes with daily essential oils and incense, something that Banyan Tree is very popular for as well, as for good reason.

Bai Yun

Next up, we went to try their Dim Sum spot, also overlooking a beautiful view. I could not get enough of this view. :p We had a spread of their most popular dim sum dishes, including Steamed Jade Dumplings with Fresh Scallop and Shrimp (below) as well as Steamed Seaweed with Spicy Garlic Sauce and Minced Shrimp + much more! You can take a look at Bai Yun here.

Afternoon Tea

Depending on which levels you stay on of the hotel, the higher floors have a lot of amenities. One being Afternoon Tea, (as well as buffet breakfast). Took it all in with some Jasmine tea and some pastries before heading to dinner.

Vertigo & Moon Bar

Now onto what Banyan Tree is really popular for. People from all over the world are told they MUST go here to see this unbelievable 360 view of the city. If you are ever in Bangkok, this rooftop is a MUST, just look how gorgeous this is! There is dinner at Vertigo, too, where we tried a wine tasting menu of ahi poke, lamb, mushroom soup and more! Head to Moon Bar for drinks, you won't be sorry. Grab a couple drinks and soak it all in.

Cauliflower Crust Pizza

IMG_7727
IMG_7727

Looking for an alternative to the OG pizza? Look no further, this cauliflower crust pizza is healthier than pizza dough, made of entirely cheese and cauliflower. Cheese is optional, if you'd like to make a vegan or raw pizza, it's possible, but the cheese does give a lot of flavor to this. It is an easy healthy alternative to pizza that will satisfy your craving.

In this recipe, I used Fourth Creek Foods sweet red pepper relish in the tomato sauce, it gave a sweet and nice kick to the sauce. This sauce came in my Hatchery box and if you'd like to try out your first tasting box for 50% off, use the code LINDSEYEATS and click here to purchase.

Doma Kitchen

IMG_0154
IMG_0154

A sweet spot located in Manhattan Beach, Doma Kitchen is bringing amazing flavors filled with local and fresh ingredients.

I had a remarkable experience enjoying the beautiful decor and delicious Doma Kitchen staple dishes. The owner, Angie, is friendly and really passionate about food and her culture. The menu contains all different types of cuisine but has a strong emphasis on European & Central Asian dishes, some from her background in Ukraine. When food tastes good, even more than good, one can notice it's due to the amount of passion and love put into the meal and this shine through here at Doma Kitchen.

We tasted traditional dishes with a healthy and unique twist. Starting with Borscht, then Housemade Chicken Dumplings in Broth, Braised Rice "Plov" with veggies & herbs, Uzbeck style, and ended with tea and Pumpkin cake, marshmallow whipped cream & caramelized apples (gluten free!). Continue reading for photos and a full run down of the dishes.

We started off with some black and hibiscus iced tea served in cute mason jars. While waiting for Angie to arrive, I took a look at the menu. Serving happy hour from 3-6 on Monday-Friday with $1 off beer and wine as well as many discounted appetizers and sides. The menu is diverse and contains many Californian dishes like wraps, tartines, sandwiches and french fries and then some other dishes that are very cultural, these are the dishes we tried.

IMG_9818
IMG_9818

First off was the Borscht. This is a Ukrainian style soup with beets, cabbage and local natural grass fed lamb, fresh dill, bavarian rye bread and a side of sour cream. Everything we tried was phenomenal, but this was by far my favorite dish. Doma Kitchen took on this Borscht and transformed it into a healthier dish. Normally, it is much heavier but this was light and with the grass fed lamb, it brought a strong and tender flavor. The flavor of the soup was sweet and savory, bringing pieces of cabbage and tender, tasty lamb. This dish is extremely light, yet filling, and the flavors just sing in unison. What you do is put some sour cream in the soup with some bread. They ship their Rye Bread from Germany, it is extremely fresh and delicious. When you have this soup with the sour cream, it brings it to another level. I cannot wait to come back here and get this soup again.

IMG_9850
IMG_9850
IMG_1174
IMG_1174

Next was the dumpling soup. These are Siberian style housemade dumplings, local cage-free chicken, chicken broth, fresh dill and of course - a side of sour cream. The dumpling dough was made in-house and this shows through with the bite. It is velvety, soft, and extremely fresh. The dill gives the chicken inside and the broth a hearty flavor. I am a fan of chicken dumplings and these were some of the best I've had. The flavors of all the chicken with the chicken broth was fantastic. All the local and cage free, grass fed meat and poultry is a strong way to be healthy and to feel lighter when having a meal.

IMG_9919
IMG_9919

After the soup, we tried Braised Rice "Plov" with veggies & herbs. It had veggies like Garbonzo Beans and a sauce as well as tomatoes and onions. There were also raisins in the rice dish and I am normally not a huge fan of raisins in rice, but this worked perfectly together. The turmeric and spice blend in the rice worked perfect and all the flavors acted with one another, making this a pretty awesome rice dish.

A seasonal dessert was up next, Pumpkin cake, marshmallow whipped cream & caramelized apples (gluten free!). The fact that this dessert dish is gluten free really brings a smile to my face. Although I am not gluten, some people are allergic or that is their choice to not eat gluten and at restaurants especially, there are not a lot of gluten dessert options, and if they do have it, it's not very tasty. However, this was a great taste of marshmallow whipped cream with the cinnamon caramelized apples presented on a tree tray in a mason jar.

IMG_9978
IMG_9978

Overall, this was an amazing spot. I enjoyed everything and every bite. The freshness was strong and the flavors all worked together. I left feeling full, and a good full. Not a full after a hamburger and french fries, this was the full we need to be. From a filling yet light and locally, free ranged and fresh lunch. Be sure to check out Doma Kitchen, maybe I'll see you there next time! Planning my next visit already.

11 Ways To Motivate Yourself

DSCN0737
DSCN0737
  1. Shift your negative thoughts to positive ones. This is an important first step to motivate yourself. There are many ways you can shift your thoughts and vibration, it depends on you, you can do this through music, lists, rewarding yourself, cleaning up clutter, getting out of bed, shifting to a good mood, flashing a smile, asking questions, growing confidence and making mistakes.
  2. Music: Listen to anything your heart desires. Listen to what makes your heart sing and what gives you goosebumps. Sing along, dance along.
  3. Lists: Write down what you have to do and DO IT, write down your dreams, goals, what you're feeling, what you want from life, what you want from the future, what you want right from this moment. Write lists and write paragraphs, write stories. Write and write (or type), after you will have a feeling of relief if you are journaling and you will feel organized.
  4. After you complete something on your to-do lists, like doing the laundry or doing the dishes or even accomplishing a goal for your career, reward yourself. This will put you in an instant great mood! You can do this by splurging on a new dress or eating a bar of chocolate. What I do when I reward myself is pick up a Sugarfish to go box! You can do whatever you love to reward yourself.
  5. Clean up Clutter
  6. Get out of bed, get dressed, make yourself presentable and rock your DAY!
  7. We often get in a rut and are not motivated when we are in a bad mood, when something is wrong, when we are in our mind and in our ego. A way to get motivated is to put yourself is a good mood. You can do this simply by shifting your thoughts, however, sometimes this can be difficult so you can do something you love to do, a hobby of yours, or even speaking to someone you love. When you are in a bad mood, you will procrastinate and nothing will ever get done, however, do whatever you can to turn your bad mood into a good one.
  8. When you wake up in the morning, flash a smile to yourself or in the mirror. It is often showed that smiling can increase your mood and also takes less muscles than a frown!
  9. Ask yourself questions and allow the honest answers to come up. Don't resist an answer you don't want to here from your heart. A major way you can stay motivated and get motivated is by solving a question that has been stressing you out. It is important to know yourself and be completely honest and this will allow you to stay motivated daily!
  10. Confidence: It is important to build up confidence if you want to stay motivated. You need to know that whatever you want in life, you can have it. And you need to be confident when others may try to put you down or step on your dreams. Do not take this personal, it is letting you know you are on the right track and lets their insecurities shine through. BE THE DIFFERENCE, NOT THE SAME as everyone else telling you, you can't do anything. Build up your confidence through your momentum.
  11. It is important to make mistakes. When you make a mistake, don't fall in a rut, use it as a sign to get back up again. When you fail, it is a good thing and will teach you a lesson. Don't allow this to break your motivation. Whenever something falls through, just let it pass and pick back up.

Hierloom Tomatoes with Cotija Cheese: This was a refreshing and soft part of the heavy, meat filled meal! It worked well with the hot meats and the mac n cheese. This was one of the dishes I kept going back to clear my palette and enjoy a refreshing bite.

IMG_5837

IMG_5837

Crispy Potato & Hatch Chile Tacos: This was almost like an empanada and tasted amazing! The potatoes were crispy and also soft on the inside and the crispy taco worked well with the potato. This was also one of my favorites.

Potato Salad: I am a major fan of potato salad and this was one of the best I've EVER had! It was not a strong mayo taste like some potato salads may have. It was a very light salad, which is rare when potatoes are heavy and the sauce is normally heavy as well. This is definitely a recipe I want to snag. The potatoes were also cooked perfectly which sometimes restaurants may mess up. Overall, the potato salad, mac n cheese & the tomato salad had me coming back for more and more every time I got some meat from the BBQ!

Ancient Age Bourbon, Grapefruit, Honey: This was a delicious, sweet but not SO sweet cocktail to go with the delicious BBQ! The grapefruit masked the bourbon but not too much and the honey gave it nice flavor as well.

IMG_5849

IMG_5849

Sticky Toffee Cornbread: This was by FAR one of my favorites of the night. The cornbread was moist and full of flavor and then on top there was a gooey sticky toffee! It was sweet and paired PERFECT with the amazing cornbread. It was sweet, sticky and had an amazing taste, I had a lot of these!

Pictured above in the first photo was the Pickle Brine Fried Chicken. I've never in my life had fried chicken like this, and this is on their regular menu. The other items are just special for this occasion but on their day-to-day menu they have the Fried Chicken with Grits! The outside crust was crunchy and had a hint of sour from the pickle that gave it an amazing taste. And then when you bit into it, you taste soft and melt-in-your-mouth chicken. Best of the night!

Thanks Terrine for having me! It was truly a night to remember and I am looking forward to coming back soon!

IMG_1196
IMG_1196

A Life With Peace strongly believes in following your dreams and reaching your highest potential. We believe each and every human being is on earth for a sole purpose and this purpose is found through a personal passion. A lot of people are sucked into the forms of society and believe that following their passion won't result in any success, because you need to pay the bills, you know! However, we are here to tell you that your passion can drive your financial stability. The world believes dreams can't be fulfilled due to the large amount of people that also want it or the fact that no money may be involved in it. You need to understand that with passion and knowing your passion, believing, working and not giving up, you will attain your passion. However, some people are uncertain on what their passion may be! Here are 11 ways you can start to figure it out.

  1. Start by visualizing. Remove any doubt attached, especially the "I cant's". Imagine a world where anything is possible, and no matter what, financially, you will be stable. Think of any hobby or interest that comes to mind, anything? What do you like to do in this moment? Do you like sports? Working out? Painting? Being with family? It can be the smallest thing you enjoy doing.
  2. If nothing comes to your mind, go back to your childhood, what did you like to do? Is there something specific you said you wanted to do when you were a kid? Did you do any extra curricular activities that you enjoyed doing? Sometimes as a child that loves something so much and then growing up being taught it may not be unattainable can turn off the interest, however, revisit it.
  3. If nothing comes to mind, in the next few days, start observing your surroundings. Start looking at people, start reading, researching, anything to give you ideas to what you may be interested in.
  4. Take a piece of paper and write anything you like to do and don't think about it, just write. Sometimes it helps more to get it out on paper than to think it. It allows your brain activity to move faster and not skip.
  5. Think of people you've met, seen or observed that you were inspired by. Talk to them if you can, research them and see what they're about. Find out how they got there, why they got to where they are, and what they are doing. Most of the time, they will have some strong advice to share. By looking at people that inspire you, you may catch a glimpse of something you'd love to do as well.
  6. Meditate. Often times when you meditate and sit silently and quiet your mind, the answers will just come to you. It might just be a tiny thought that will spark a huge change in your life.
  7. Is there anything that you do that makes you lose track of time? It can be something like video games, singing. Anything that you know passes the time fast. That is a definite sign of a strong passion.
  8. If you really don't have anything you are interested in, try something crazy and new. Go out of your comfort zone and maybe that is what your passion is. Being comfortable in your discomfort is an important tool to utilize when following your passions and dreams.
  9. Open your heart to new things. Sometimes living a life with a closed heart with distract you from ever finding your passion. You need to release any resistance, hate, regret and forgive your life and the past and move forward. Not finding your passion may be an indicator you might need to evaluate yourself and your values and beliefs.
  10. Ask yourself, if I had NOTHING stopping me and someone told me I can do anything and everything I want right now, what would that be? The first thing you think of is usually an indication.
  11. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, just let go and have fun! The answers WILL come! When you are having fun, you are allowing. When you are allowing, your body and mind are relaxed and all things flow naturally to you!

If you have a passion, comment below what it is! We'd love to read! :)

Smokey yet sweet, this condiment pairs perfectly with anything, like burgers, on top of fries, in sauces, sandwiches, plain! but it also works well with a fried egg. The Key to Success

IMG_9749

We live in a world with a large amount of noise. No matter what, you need to be calm in that chaos. What you need to do is follow your heart, your passions, what YOU want to do, not what someone else tells you to do. Make your hobbies and your interests your career, there is money in EVERYTHING if that’s your worry. Stop using your negative thought brain and start listening to your inner intuition. You WILL BE HAPPY AND YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL if you follow what you love to do. If you dedicate each day to expressing your love for life, gratitude for the people in your life, your life will flourish, I SWEAR. It is important to express gratitude for anything and everything, these are the first steps to following your dreams, passions and leading you to a fulfilling and happy life.

Do you want to be successful? Then do just that. Find out what you love to do, if you know what you love to do, then do it, as simple as that. If you don't, go explore, open your mind and heart to new things and test out the waters. Everyday do at least ONE thing to bring you to the next step, one small thing. It doesn't have to be crazy or huge, just a small step. And after so many small steps, every day, you can then take big steps and your future will become what you never thought it would. Don't overthink it, just do one thing every day that will bring you closer. For example, you can just write an idea, then the next day, you can research the topic of your idea. It's just something to stimulate your heart and brain every single day. You are in control of your dreams, thoughts and your life, make them count!

So stop blaming yourself for your current situations and get up and do something about what your heart is telling you, stop ignoring it, stop going to do what people are telling you to, what society is telling you the norm is. BE YOU, BE THE LIGHT YOU WERE BORN TO BE, and go live life to the fullest, each and every second, moment, and waking breath.

“INGREDIENTS” FOR PEACE

IMG_4967 By: Marlene Ezra Baruch

For those of you who have been following alifewithpeace.com, you may be noticing we have been partnering with some amazing food chains. You also may be wondering, “Why so much emphasis on food?”

“A life with Peace” stands for many different things, but first and foremost, its purpose is to encourage you to follow your inner callings and passions, so that you can connect with who you really are and who you are meant to become.

These answers don’t live outside of you. It is only you that can reach into that place within that will ultimately lead you to fulfillment.

Our goal is to help guide you so that you can do just that!

There is only one way we can do that, and that is by living as true examples and aligning ourselves with our own dreams.

Whether or not you are a “foodie”, or your passion lies in another area, there is always a deeper connection that can be made between your spiritual journey and your physical journey.

As we look deeper into the connection between nourishing your body and nourishing your soul, it is obvious that there is much more than meets the eye.

Each and every of us is born with the “ingredients” to create something wonderful. However, it is important to make sure we combine our “ingredients” with others who compliment our “dishes”.

When you are with others, you are either pulling out their “good ingredients” or their “not so good ingredients”, and they are doing the same for you.

The question remains, what is it in them, or in me that is bringing this out now. Often times, it is easier to place the blame on them, but all we are really doing is handing over our “Main course’ for them to create. Placing blame is just noise we create in our minds. Ultimately that type of noise makes for “inedible dishes!”

It is our job as the “Head Chef “ in our own lives, to allow ourselves to see the part we play in our relationships. For whatever reason, whether we are pulling out “good” or “bad” ingredients in others that is what is active in them or you at that moment. Ultimately WE are choosing that ingredient. This can be hard for us to want to admit. However when we do, we are then able to take responsibility and make the choice to surround ourselves with people who bring out our GREATEST ingredients!

It is only then we can begin to co-create our most magnificent dish ever!

Wishing you a DELICIOUS Life With Peace!
